Our Assessment

Why we recommend Craveiral Farmhouse.

Craveiral Farmhouse: the most coherent way to experience the Alentejo between its own kitchen garden and the Atlantic silence.

We know this property personally and recommend it especially to families who want more than a pool. The treehouse cabins are the real heart of the place. Enquire early. The Comporta coast pairs beautifully with a farm stay.

  • A working farm estate where luxury is lived rather than performed: produce from the garden arrives directly on the plate.
  • Treehouse cabins on stilts in a pine forest as an alternative to conventional hotel rooms: privacy without isolation.
  • The infinity pool opens to the Alentejo horizon; no music, no animation, just landscape.
  • The coast between Tróia and Comporta lies minutes away: beach and stillness in the same afternoon.

Climate & best time to travel

When it rewards you most.

Best time to travel April to June, plus September and October.

The Alentejo divides clearly into coast and interior. Along the Atlantic near Comporta the sea breeze holds summer days at a comfortable 25 to 28 degrees. The interior around Santiago do Cacem and Evora turns very hot in July and August, often above 35 and occasionally 40 degrees. April to June and September to October bring 19 to 27 degrees and the best conditions. Winter stays mild and green.

  • April to June 19 to 27 degrees, blossom and long days. Mild inland air, fresh breeze on the coast.
  • July to August Interior often above 35 degrees, occasionally 40. The coast stays more bearable at 25 to 28 degrees with the sea breeze.
  • September to October Harvest season, 22 to 28 degrees, warm sea. One of the best windows for countryside and Atlantic in one day.
  • November to March Mild and green around 12 to 18 degrees, more rain, very quiet.

Experiences

What you come here for.

  1. A morning in the kitchen garden

The estate grows part of its own produce. A barefoot walk through the beds before breakfast shows where what later reaches the plate comes from.

  2. Farm-to-table at the table

The restaurant works from its own growing and nearby producers. A long dinner that starts in the garden and ends at the table is the real heart of the property.

  3. Exploring the cork-oak country

Cork oaks shape the land around Santiago do Cacem. A walk or ride through the open montado landscape explains the region better than any viewpoint.

  4. An evening at the infinity pool

The pool opens to the Alentejo horizon, with no music and no programme. The hour before sunset, as the light moves across the plain, is the quietest here.

Local Experiences

What shapes the stay.

  • Dune coast of Comporta: one of Portugal's quietest Atlantic beaches
  • Alentejo wine route through Grândola and the Serra de Grândola hills
  • Historic city of Évora (UNESCO World Heritage Site, about 1.5 hours)
