Why we recommend Raffles Seychelles.

Sixty freestanding villas on the northern tip of Praslin, set among granite boulders and tropical vegetation: no conventional hotel rooms, but a private pool and the Indian Ocean in front of every terrace.

Ocean-view Pool Villas in the mid-slope position are the sweet spot: better positioned than the entry-level villas lower down, without the supplement of the Presidential Pool Villa. For those who prioritise underwater: the PADI centre is off-site, transfers included; the bay itself offers good snorkelling direct from the beach. The candlelit beach dinner is not a cliché here: the setup at the water's edge is thoughtfully done and bookable on request at any time.

Best time to travel April, May, October and November

The transitional months of April and October are considered the best time: little wind, calm seas and dive visibility that often exceeds 30 metres. The northwest monsoon from November to March is warmer and more humid with heavy rain in January and February, while the southeast trades from May to September bring cooler, drier but windier days.

  • April / October Wind-still shoulder months with calm seas and the best underwater visibility; ideal for snorkelling and diving.
  • May–September Southeast trade winds, cooler and drier but noticeably windier; pleasant if you want to avoid the heat.
  • November–March Northwest monsoon, warm and humid; January and February are the wettest months.
