Our Assessment

Why we recommend Botania Relais & Spa.

Botania is the most coherent relais on Ischia: a hotel that weaves its thermal baths into the garden. The best way to know the island beyond the coastal strip.

We know this property personally. The jacuzzi suites are not identical: position and sea view vary considerably. Ask us for a specific room recommendation before booking. The property is small, which makes it feel more personal than most wellness hotels on the island.

Fit & Season

When this property truly shines.

Best season
May to June and September to October. Summer is hot and fully booked; spring and autumn offer mild weather, full garden bloom and more relaxed pricing.
Ideal for
Couples choosing a week of thermal baths and quiet over beachfront hotels; first-time visitors who want to experience Ischia away from the bustle.
What stays with you
Mornings in a private jacuzzi suite overlooking the gulf, evenings in the candlelit steam grotto: the hotel follows the island's own rhythm rather than a spa programme.

  • A garden-set thermal area with outdoor pool, indoor pool and steam grotto, not confined to a basement wellness level.
  • Suites with private terrace jacuzzis: the Gulf of Naples as part of the room, not a viewpoint excursion.
  • Campanian kitchen served on a pergola terrace: local produce, no buffet format in the evenings.
  • Owner-managed character on an island that feels crowded in high season: Botania remains noticeably apart from that.

Climate & best time to travel

When it rewards you most.

Best time to travel April to June and September to October

Ischia is rewarding from April to October, and its thermal waters carry the island through the shoulder season. In the cooler months the sea is still fresh at 15 to 19C, but the hot springs at 28 to 40C make up for it. August is hot and fully booked; spring and early autumn bring garden bloom, quiet baths and gentler prices.

  • April to May 15 to 22C and the thermal parks open. Still too cool for sea swimming, but the hot springs make the shoulder season appealing.
  • June to August Warm 26 to 30C with a sea around 24C. High summer is hot and heavily booked, especially in Sant'Angelo and the coastal hotels.
  • September to October Mild between 19 and 27C with the sea still 22 to 24C. Thermal operations continue; first hotels begin to close from mid-October.

Experiences

What you come here for.

  1. Thermal cure in the resort garden

The private thermal area with outdoor pool, indoor pool and steam grotto sits within a planted garden. A day here follows a rhythm of warm water, shade and quiet rather than a fixed spa programme. Treatments can be spread across several days.

  2. Hike up Monte Epomeo

Ischia's volcanic summit can be reached on foot from the centre of the island in a few hours, with a wide view over the Bay of Naples. The final stretch passes through paths cut into tuff stone. A soak in the thermal garden afterwards closes the day.

  3. Evening of Campanian cuisine under the pergola

The kitchen works with ingredients from Campania and serves on an outdoor terrace under a pergola rather than a buffet. Local wines from Ischia's volcanic soils round out the menu. The atmosphere stays owner-led and calm.

Local Experiences

What shapes the stay.

  • Giardini di Poseidon or Negombo: the island's large public thermal parks, worth an afternoon excursion.
  • Boat trip to Procida and Capri: reachable from Ischia Porto in around 45 minutes.
  • Forio di Ischia: the small town with the church of Santa Maria del Soccorso directly above the sea, one of the quietest evenings on the island.
