New in the atlas: Don Maaga in the South Malé Atoll
The second island of SIX & SIX Private Islands opens in the fourth quarter of 2026, 30 minutes by speedboat from Velana. We have added it to the atlas before its first season begins.
Don Maaga lies in the South Malé Atoll, close enough to the airport that the transfer does not become a journey of its own. The resort opens with 57 villas between 515 and more than 1,500 square metres. Every villa has a private pool of 16 to 25 metres and is looked after by its own Edhurun, the resort's mentor-style butler. The staff-to-guest ratio is seven to one.
Two villa families
The first decision at Don Maaga is the villa family. TERRA stands on the beach: beach pavilions with twin fresh- and saltwater pools and a direct path into the sand. AETHR stands over the water: elevated decks with the lagoon beneath, and on the water villas a 21-metre slide straight into the sea. Those who prefer sand under their feet in the morning choose TERRA; those who want the view of the open reef choose AETHR.
Six restaurants from Peruvian cuisine to the Grill Room, alongside a champagne, lobster and caviar bar and a six-cover wine cellar. That is more choice than a private island of this size usually offers.
Why now
New properties have a rhythm of their own in their first season: the team is settling in, conditions are not yet fixed, and early bookings often secure villas that later need long lead times. We check availability and conditions for the opening season directly with the resort and say honestly when a date is too early.
For guests who know the Maldives and want more private space this time than a classic resort island offers, Don Maaga is the address we will be discussing most often this winter.
