New in the atlas: six houses in July
Mallorca, the Maldives, Lisbon and New York: in July we added six addresses to the atlas, among them three small houses on Mallorca for weeks without the crowds.
The atlas grows slowly. We add a house when we know it or when a partner we trust shows it to us. In July there were six.
Mallorca
Can Simoneta and Pleta de Mar both lie in Canyamel in the east of the island. Can Simoneta is a small, understated hotel on the cliff with a bathing platform on the rocks and gardens above the sea. Pleta de Mar, adults only, stands directly above the water among the pines and puts its emphasis on serious cooking. Castell Son Claret near Es Capdellà in the south-west is the third address: a historic manor estate between olive groves and the Tramuntana, for guests who stay longer in one place. Three houses, three different weeks on the same island.
Maldives
Amilla on Finolhas in Baa Atoll adds to our selection within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Here the first decision is the position of the pool villa: over the lagoon, on the beach or up in the treetops. Eight residences serve larger groups, and the house reef and the Blue Hole are kept as separate snorkelling areas.
Cities
The Wallace on West 76th Street brings the Upper West Side into the atlas: residential-style rooms and suites a few blocks from Central Park and Riverside Park. MYTHIC SANA on Rua do Ouro in Lisbon is an 18th-century Pombaline building with 48 rooms and suites and a butler available around the clock. We have stayed in both houses ourselves; Lisbon gets a post of its own.
Each of these houses has its own page in the atlas with climate, travel season and our assessment. If one of them is on your mind, a short call is the quickest way.
